BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS FOR THE WEEKEND OF APRIL 30 – MAY 2
It looks like another slow weekend at the box office. Two new films open; horror remake, A Nightmare on Elm Street and family comedy Furry Vengeance starring Brendan Fraser. Elm Street will lead the pack with relative ease and will be the only film in the top 10 to collect more than $15M. Although this is a slow weekend (with the exception of Freddy Krueger), the box office will pick up tremendously next weekend when Iron Man 2 blasts its way into theatres, officially kicking off the summer movie season.

BOX OFFICE RESULTS FOR THE WEEKEND OF APRIL 23-25
It was a slow weekend at the box office with How to Train Your Dragon topping the charts in its fifth frame with a mere $15.3M. Jennifer Lopez needs a back-up plan for her career after the weak performance of her new romantic comedy The Back-up Plan and The Losers turned out to be just that at the box office. Meanwhile Disney Nature’s Oceans had a solid debut, posting the best per screen average in the top 10. Take a look.

5 out of 10
Based on the comic book series from DC/Vertigo, The Losers is a mediocre entry in the cartoon violence action genre. There are some cool action sequences, a decent but familiar revenge themed plot and a couple of good laughs along the way but there are also some big plot holes, overly kinetic direction from Sylvian White and one terrible performance. The first twenty minutes are fairly painful but overall the film improves over its running time. In the first few scenes it’s as if the actors have no chemistry together and haven’t yet figured out how to play off one another. This does improve over the life of The Losers which is why the movie merits a 5 and not a 4.

BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS FOR THE WEEKEND OF APRIL 23-25
It’s kind of a tame weekend at the box office with three new releases that don’t really have any break out potential. They are The Back-up Plan starring Jennifer Lopez; The Losers based on the DC/Vertigo comic book series and Disney Nature’s second documentary feature Oceans. With these films set to underperform, How to Train Your Dragon should soar to first place which is a rare occurrence for a film in its fifth weekend of release. Take a look.

9 out of 10
I have to admit that the first time I saw the trailer for Steve Carell and Tina Fey’s romantic action comedy Date Night, I was quite skeptical. I thought that you get two huge comedy stars, Carell and Fey together in the same movie and this is what you give them to do… a ridiculous action movie!? Boy was I wrong. Date Night is one seriously funny movie that will leave you smiling long after you leave the theatre.

BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS FOR THE WEEKEND OF APRIL 9-11
This weekend at theatres, Steve Carell and Tina Fey join comedic forces in Date Night and will try to steal the top spot from Clash of the Titans. Vivendi Entertainment releases Christian film, Letters to God in just under 900 theatres and should be able to crack the top 10. Do Carell and Fey have the box office muscle to dethrone Greek gods? Take a look.
