Three new films kick off the month of October; Oscar hopeful, The Social Network, the true (?) tale of Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, vampire remake, Let Me In and long on the shelf, Case 39 starring Renee Zellwegger and Bradley Cooper. The Social Network is riding a wave of terrific buzz and will certainly be #1 this weekend, but how many friends will it actually make? Take a look.

The summer movie season ended in a whimper last weekend and the fall movie season kicks off with only 1 wide release, the fourth installment of the only video game inspired movie franchise, Resident Evil: Afterlife in 3D. I know, I know… everything is in 3D these days, but this one was actually shot in 3D, which, let’s face it, makes a huge difference. Anyway, RE 4 will of course be #1 this weekend while everything else in the top 10 will be grossing single digits this weekend. Take a look.

Early estimates for the Labor Day weekend suggest that George Clooney’s assassin drama The American will be #1 for the holiday frame, followed closely by Machete. This weekend’s other new release, Going the Distance seems likely to open in a distant 5^th place.
