I’ve been watching Heroes since the very first episode and both Anders and I have expressed our feelings about this series on many occasions. I felt like this once promising series had lost its way and would probably never find its way back. That is until last night’s episode “Cold Snap” aired. This episode was filled to the brim with all the elements that made the show so fun to watch in the first season. We saw characters die, discover powers and even learned the identity of the mysterious Rebel who has been helping the heroes throughout the Fugitives story arc.
Volume 4: Fugitives has been extremely uneven up until last night, with a crappy episode to match every good one. We the viewers have been subjected to plots that seem to meander forever and character motivations that really seem to make no sense (Nathan being the prime example). Anyway, last night’s ep seems to be the beginning of a new dawn for this show. They finally gave Hiro his powers back (thank god!) and it was done in a very cool way with baby Matt Parkman using his powers to turn Hiro's on. I also love the nickname for baby Matt, touch and go baby. Very funny and clever. We also saw that Ando is capable of way more than being a human battery; his power is actually pretty kick ass! After watching Hiro and Ando wander around aimlessly for a billion episodes it’s wonderful to see them back in a great plot line (keeping touch and go baby safe) with their powers intact (for the most part). In fact, watching Hiro pushing Ando around in a wheel barrow as all time around him was frozen was quite hilarious. Thank god these characters have a purchase again.
Angela Petrelli being on the run throughout the episode was done very well, filled with suspense and nail biting moments. I’ve never much cared for this character and the fact that I was invested in what was happening to her last night speaks volumes. I still truly don’t know what her end game is, but I’m willing to play along. One of the best moments last night was when Angela was saved by son, Peter. Truly great TV. Two characters died last night, although I’m pretty sure that Tracy isn’t really gone. After to seeing the full extent of her powers, I actually hope that they bring her back. I absolutely loved the way they handled Daphne’s death, with Matt using his power to give her a few fairy tale moments before she died. It was poignant and classy and more than a little emotional. Every characters death should be handled this well.
Anders and I during one of our endless conversations had already agreed upon the fact that Rebel was in actuality Micah (is that how you spell it?), but nonetheless, learning that he was in fact Rebel was quite astonishing. I’m glad to see they brought the kid back (I always liked him) and that he has full command of his power. All in all for me, last night’s episode of Heroes has given me hope. Hope that this once great show can rise from the ashes and soar once again. Up, up and away indeed.

Re: Heroes... Flying High Once Again!
Looks like I'm going to have to start watching a new show, Bill! I was always curious about this show ever since - not to sound intellectual or anything - I read that it had a lot of similarities to Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children (which i hear is India's version of the X-Men!). Anyway, now that Life on Mars is no longer with us, I have some free time to fill with Heroes.
