Hi guys and gals, my name is Anders (yes that's my first name). Sadly , Bill has taken ill (hey that rhymes!), and because he spends his time locked away in his office diligently working on such important things as box office predictions, film screenings, and marketing campaigns, I am his only friend (yes tragic I know). Now I don't want to cause mass panic as I am sure Bill will be fine, he is just in the middle of passing a small family of kidney stones, and due to medicinal treatments is a bit loopy, or in extreme agonizing pain. Truth is, he is out of commission and the remaining powers that be at FILMGO have apparently abused some of Bill's medication (among other things) and asked me to fill in.
Now that we got all that juicy gossip out of the way, I am going to do my best to rant and rave like the lunatic that I am. The title of the blog may have you thinking after the first paragraph that it refers to Bill, who I must admit is certainly a super genius when it comes to all things movie, music, television, etc… (personally I think he has some type of idiot-savant thing going on , but hey we love him anyway). What it really refers to is something that really bothers me in this new age of comic book inspired movies. Who the hell are the geniuses, or non geniuses who frickin green light these projects?
You see when Bill and I were small lads, we always dreamed of the days when we would get to see our favorite super heroes on screen. You know back then it was a huge thrill to get a glimpse of a comic book hero on the small screen, let alone the big screen. Obviously we had the biggies, reruns of the mid 60's Batman television show, the Superman movies, and The Hulk series. After that, repeats of Wonder Woman (blah, we were boys and too young to care that she was hot), cheesy Spiderman TV movie, or television show (can't remember which it was) and his appearances on the Electric Company (which PBS is revamping now, and featured a much younger Morgan Freeman for you trivia freaks ), some live action Captain Marvel and Isis, and the worst TV movie of all time, Captain America (you remember on the motorcycle with the helmet instead of a real mask). Also for all you comic geeks out there 1979's Legend of the Superheroes. Which starred Adam West, and Burt Ward, reprising their roles as Batman and Robin. At the time I remember thinking it was the coolest thing ever, upon further review...not so much. My point is this, have things gotten better? Yes. We've gotten two great Batman films (I'll dismiss the franchise Tim Burton started in 1989), two great Spiderman movies (third one was ok but not on par with the first two), two very decent X-Men flicks (again 3rd not up to snuff) and a surprisingly fantastic Iron Man movie. Here in lies the problem, one of two things seems to happen when they begin a journey with superhero material. They either botch the story or casting (Daredevil, first Hulk movie, Fantastic Four, Superman Returns…and don't even get me started on Superman) or they find material from these obscure comic books or graphic novels (Hellboy, V for Vendetta, The Watchmen). Please don’t get me wrong, in the case of the latter I am sure that some of these ideas make a great movie, I personally enjoyed V for Vendetta, Hellboy, and I am sure I will probably see the Watchmen. What bothers me is that with all the great superheroes out there we can’t do better than these characters for a big screen adaptation?
It drives me bananas! I am also sure that with the success of comic book based movies that every character ever brought to life on bristle board is being developed for a movie, making this rant obsolete in the next 15-20 years, but c’mon! Case in point, do I really need to be subjected to another Punisher movie (War Zone in a theater near you Dec. 5th, be sure to catch it !) before I get to see Green Lantern brought to life? Two Sin City movies will be made before I get to oggle some smoking hot actress play Wonder Woman? Again, not bashing Frank Miller or Sin City, but that’s more of a bankable idea than Wonder Woman? I got more amped up seeing the fake clip of an Aquaman movie on Entourage! That is what has been keeping me up at night since this whole superhero movement in Hollywood began. Can I get a Flash movie, or Captain America, a damn Justice League film which has been in development hell forever, before I’ve got to watch The Spirit? Who the hell is making these decisions? Can I get a job? It’s almost as good as being a weatherman; you only need to have a hit 30% of the time to keep your job.
If anyone in Hollywood should happen to read this, do us a favor: email Bill or myself, and ask us what comic book projects should get the old Hollywood treatment. Guarantee we hit a far better average than you are listening to now.
Of course the beautiful thing about opinions is that they are like @#$*#@!* everyone has one, so if you agree or disagree let us know, that’s what we are here for.
Thanks for reading, I hope I didn’t disappoint! I had so much fun doing this I may have to start feeding Bill calcium supplements on the sneak (that’s what his kidney stones are made of). Thanks FILMGO for letting me have my say, you just saved me an $80 co-payment for therapy!

My dear Anders I can't possibly disagree with u. I am just gonna add to your point. 3 movies I am amazed u forgot.. Elektra, catwoman, and the god aweful Ghost Rider! And for the record the I think the punisher the Thomas Jane version might be the biggest piece of shit ever created!! I am not gonna lie I thought it was gonna be awesome when i saw the trailer. Oh man did it prove me wrong. I left think the dolph lundgren version was better. NOW THAT'S JUST SAD!! And the superman returns abomination .. seriously WTF!! I got an idea for crist sakes just follow the smallville story! As much as i would love to see a superman movie that is up to my expectations I think Smallville is far better then any superman movie they could ever make!
