After a record setting President’s Day weekend the box office will cool off a bit with only one new release hitting theatres. After a release date shuffle, the long anticipated Shutter Island from director Martin Scorsese finally arrives. BOX OFFICE RESULTS FOR THE WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 12-14
With the Valentine’s Day falling in the middle of President’s Day weekend the box office was on fire as 3 new films had terrific debuts and the other films in the top 10 experienced smaller than usual declines (some were even up for the frame). Valentine’s Day easily stole the hearts of couples looking for romance this weekend and debuted at #1. All the dateless guys helped The Wolfman edge out Percy Jackson for second place, although the two are expected to swap places when Monday’s numbers are added into the mix.

BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS FOR THE WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 12-14
Audiences have 3 new films to choose from over the Presidents Day holiday frame which also happens to be Valentine’s Day weekend as well. The aptly named romantic comedy Valentine’s Day is the film to beat this weekend with all the couples and single gals racing to theatres to see it. Percy Jackson and the Olympians is aiming to be the next Harry Potter, while The Wolfman attempts to reboot the classic horror figure for today’s audience.

BOX OFFICE RESULTS FOR THE WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 5-7
The latest film based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, Dear John will go down in history as the film that knocked Avatar out of the top spot. Dear John also came close to the largest debut in history for a Super Bowl weekend nearly edging out the gross of the Hannah Montana 3-D concert from 2 years ago. This weekends only other new release, the John Travolta vehicle, From Paris With Love, bombed in third place.

BOX OFFICE RESULTS FOR THE WEEKEND OF JANUARY 29-31
Once again Avatar defended its box office crown with ease, grossing more than new releases Edge of Darkness and When in Rome combined. This is the seventh weekend in a row that the Na’vi have taken the #1 spot and it seems poised to continue its reign next weekend with two weaker films entering the marketplace this weekend.

BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS FOR THE WEEKEND OF JANUARY 29-31
This weekend marks the return of Mel Gibson to the big screen after a seven year absence with Edge of Darkness. The only other film opening in wide release is romantic comedy When in Rome starring Kristen Bell. The real question is whether Avatar can fend off Mr. Gibson and remain the #1 film for the seventh weekend in a row. I think it’s going to be a tight race. Take a look.

BOX OFFICE RESULTS FOR THE WEEKEND OF JANUARY 22-24
To no one’s surprise, Avatar continued to be #1 for the sixth weekend in a row, fighting off a trio of newcomers with ease. The 3-D adventure flick was the first film since Titanic to rule the charts for a six week period. Titanic managed to stay at top for a record 15 frames but Avatar won’t be able to match that. Action horror film Legion opened well in second place, Dwayne Johnson’s latest family film The Tooth Fairy opened disappointingly in fourth while Extraordinary Measures starring Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser fizzled in seventh. Take a look.
