This Is It opened on Wednesday with a disappointing $7.4M including $2.2M from Tuesday midnight showings.  This is way lower than expected.  Certainly way lower than the $17M Sony was hoping for and also way lower than the original Wednesday estimates announced this morning ($12M).  The film did gross another $13M worldwide so more than likely Sony will be making money from the film, just not as much as they had hoped for.
