After last year’s disappointing Land of the Lost, Will Ferrell is back in form again as a mild-mannered cop in The Other Guys. This film marks his fourth collaboration with Adam McKay, the director behind some of Ferrell’s biggest hits at the box office. Here’s a look at their track record so far.

 

All three of the films above were box office hits and The Other Guys should easily follow the same path. Look for the fourth effort from Ferrell and McKay to open with about $35M and make its way to just under $100M by the end of its run. 

The only other new film in wide release this weekend is Step Up 3D, the third installment of the dance series. The other two films were modest successes at the box office and this one should perform about the same. The first film opened with $20.7M on its way to $65.3M and the second did nearly as well with an $18.9M opening and a total of $58M. The audience may have waned for these films, but the surcharge for 3-D showings should help it compete with its predecessors. The film was shot with 3D cameras and should be worth the extra money. Look for Step Up 3D to dance away with about $20M this weekend.
