BOX OFFICE RESULTS FOR THE WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 25-27
This weekend at the box office, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs continued to feed audiences looking for laughs and a good time at multiplexes. Surrogates starring Bruce Willis got off to a decent start coming in second place. The other 2 releases for the frame, Pandorum and Fame, failed to connect with movie goers and were dead on arrival.

8.5 out of 10
Surrogates is a good movie with a fantastic, thought provoking premise. Set in a futuristic world where humans live in isolation and interact through surrogate robots, a cop (Bruce Willis) must leave his home for the first time in years to investigate the murders of other’s surrogates. In today’s technology obsessed society, where everyone carries a cell phone so that they can text or update their Facebook status, the idea that in the future, human beings will engage each other only through the use of their robots seems all too plausible and therefore frightening to think about.

BOX OFFICE RESULTS FOR THE WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 18-20
Mamma mia! Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs dominated the frame making more money than the other 3 new releases of the week combined. The Informant! and Love Happens had decent debuts although the future doesn’t look very good for either of them. The much hyped Jennifer’s Body starring Megan Fox is a big bomb and although most of the industry was surprised by this, I can’t say that I am.

Writer/director Mike Judge’s third film, Extract, is an amicable workplace comedy that serves as the perfect companion piece to his 1999 cult classic, Office Space. Much like Office Space, Extract is the story of an average guy only this time around he’s the employer, not the employee. Judge has always excelled at wringing the humor and silliness of everyday life and he is back in fine form with this film.

Sylvester Stallone is scaring me. He is about to destroy his second best franchise, Rambo. Don’t get me wrong. I’m thrilled there is going to be another Rambo movie. I loved the fourth film. I thought it was brilliant and affirmed what I’ve been saying for years about Stallone. He is an amazing artist! At its core, the Rambo series has always been about the politics of war wrapped inside a hard candy action flick shell. Stallone took things even further with the fourth film, making a hybrid docudrama/action flick. The violence in that film was so realistic it was actually hard to watch in spots. Stallone had perfected the tone of his franchise and now I’m hearing that he wants to take Rambo 5 in a new direction. Sounds good. I trust in Sly. Not so fast, it seems the next Rambo film will be sci-fi. Yes you read that right… sci-fi. This leaves me with only one question… why Sly why?
